In May we released the first version of CyberDefense Pro. This course helps you prepare students for careers in cybersecurity through an engaging, all-in-one training experience that teaches students how to think like a hacker and perform effective counter measures. Students will obtain hands-on skills using up-to-date software tools and the confidence needed to get certified and obtain gainful employment in the cybersecurity field.

In August we updated our Client Pro course. Client Pro helps students learn how to deploy, configure, secure, manage, and monitor Windows desktops. With the new update to MD-100 and 101, Microsoft has added more emphasis on the cloud and maintaining Windows.

The LabSim team simplified the student enrollment process. Now teachers can share a link with their students, allowing students to enroll in their class, and in some cases gain product access at the same time.

MOS Exam Prep Feature

As part of our ongoing effort to improve our courses, we wanted an exam prep for the MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) that was top of the line. Our new MOS prep material is state-of-the-art for training students to pass the MOS exam on the first try.

LabSim Updates and Improvements

Exam Scheduling

Last year over 800,000 custom exams were scheduled and taken. Based on feedback about our exam scheduling process, we modified the process to clarify and simplify the user experience for scheduling exams.

Accessibility

At the end of 2020, we had a third-party vendor complete an accessibility audit of LabSim and our website. In 2021 we completed 34% of our outstanding items related to accessibility, including addressing the only area we previously did not support. Along the way, we moved an additional 18 VPAT categories from “partially supports” to “supports.” We expect to add to this progress in 2022.

Security

Protecting student data has been a large focus for us in 2021. LabSim 6 brought some great security improvements, and we have continued that focus, dedicating weeks of additional time to bolstering LabSim security.

LMS Integrations

Blackboard LTI 1.3 Pilot

We released LTI 1.3 for Blackboard. We had over 10 schools pilot the integration that brought easier class setup, better single sign-on experience for students and teachers, and automatic grade pass back (yes, true automatic grade pass back).

Canvas Auto Sync Pilot

We began a pilot test for Canvas integrated schools that provides a true automatic grade pass back. Students can stay in LabSim and complete multiple assignments and each of those grades will automatically be sent to LabSim (within minutes — without any involvement from an instructor). Ask your TestOut representative if you’d like to start using this new feature.
