Ch 1: Course Overview
Chapter 1 introduces the TestOut Word Pro course, starting with an introduction to Microsoft Office and Word. It discusses the course objectives, and how to use the lab simulations for effective learning. It also introduces keyboard shortcuts as well as tips for Mac and Chromebook users
Ch 2: Common Office Features
Chapter 2 familiarizes students with common features in Microsoft Office products such as backstage options, ribbon and its hidden features, customizing the quick access toolbar, printing files, navigating documents and formatting shapes and images. Students will also learn the difference between the desktop and web versions of the applications. Hands-on practice interacting with these features will help them work across Microsoft products.
Ch 3: Document and Text Basics
Chapter 3 provides extensive practice creating and working within Word documents. Students will learn how to use the clipboard to apply copy, cut, and paste options and efficiently create and format documents. After learning how to import text, print documents, and navigate the formatting and font options, students will practice within diverse document types. Completing this chapter, students will know a variety of tips for modifying text fonts, formatting paragraphs, and editing documents to create professional engaging documents.
Ch 4: Document Formatting and Graphics
Chapter 4 presents the various ways to format a document manually and the benefits of using themes, styles, and templates. Students will learn how to insert and format illustrations and images within a document and practice creating and altering tables using advanced formatting. This chapter also covers how to apply and modify existing styles and themes, customize their colors and fonts and edit/reformat templates.
Ch 5: Academic and Workplace Features
Chapter 5 describes how to build professional documents by managing references, headers/footers and collaboration. This chapter begins by introducing citations, footnotes, endnotes and table of contents, it demonstrates how to add references and insert/format a bibliography. Students will learn to improve the aesthetics of their document by formatting headers/footers throughout the document adding dates and page numbers and using section breaks/continuous section breaks. The chapter concludes by featuring the track changes tool and teaches student how to effectively distribute their files by checking accessibility/compatibility, protecting documents using a password and marking documents as read only.
Ch 6: Word Associate Live Projects
Chapter 6 introduces the auto-graded live projects within Word, unlike other assignments, these live projects are done using an installed version of Microsoft Word where students can practice what they have learned from the simulated labs. Students can download guided instruction from LabSim to execute the tasks within Microsoft Word. Teachers/Students will still be able to see the results from the assignments and access the submitted assignments. This chapter provides 3 assignments, testing earlier skills learned.
Ch 7: MOS Word Associate (MO-100)
Chapter 7 prepares students to take the MOS Word Associate (MO-100) exam. It begins by teaching best practices in preparing for the MOS exam such as studying over time, focusing on exam objectives and entering the test well rested. It also reviews how to perform unfamiliar tasks by searching panes, dialog boxes and contextual tabs. Lastly this chapter introduces the TestOut MOS Practice exams, providing domain practice labs as well as practice exams so that students can enter the actual exam with confidence.
Ch 8: Custom Styles
Chapter 8 expands student’s knowledge of customization to styles, themes, templates and charts. Students will learn how to create, manage, share, and modify styles. This chapter will cover how to change template fonts, copy styles to other documents and create custom design sets. This chapter concludes by introducing chart types and how to create, edit and format charts.
Ch 9: Advanced Editing and References
Chapter 9 introduces advanced Find and Replace, indexes and captions and document review/protection. As students dive into these advanced topics, they will learn Find and Replace options, formatting and how to use special characters and wild cards. As they explore Indexes, figures and captions, they will learn how to create update and mark index entries and generate figure and table captions. This chapter concludes with how to review and protect documents studying among other things edit and review languages, display options, combine revisions, use master/sub documents, and protect and restrict editing.
Ch 10: Automatic Document Content
Chapter 10 discusses how to create forms and fields, use mail merge, and create macros to control content and reduce work. This chapter will review building blocks, quick parts, auto text and document properties to control content within forms and fields. Students will gain an extensive understanding of mail merge and learn to manage lists, view merge results and create merged documents, labels and envelopes. The chapter wraps up introducing macros, how to record, protect, edit and copy simple macros to help reduce work for repetitive tasks.
Ch 11: MOS Word Expert (MO – 101) Practice Exams
Chapter 11 prepares students to take the MOS Word Expert (MO-101) exam. It begins by teaching best practices in preparing for the MOS exam such as studying over time, focusing on exam objectives and entering the test well rested.
